How many of us are STOKED about Washington, Maryland, and New Jersey working to become the next states who legalized Gay Marriage?
As we already know, Washington has already took it's steps as Gov. Christine Gregoire signed into law their marriage equality bill! That made Washington the 7th State (plus Washington DC) to accept same sex marriages.
Read More about it Here: http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2012/02/13/WASHINGTON_GOVERNOR_ON_MARRIAGE_IT_IS_SIGNED/
Also, there is New Jersey who also passed their marriage equality bill through the senate however Gov. Chris Christie already stated that his plan in to veto it(which I think he already has) the moment it hits his desk. He claims it's because he feels his NJ citizens should vote on it, not their state government officials. We know why he really is vetoing it. Let us see if he stands behind his people if/when they vote to allow same sex marriage in the state of NJ.
Read More about it Here: http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2012/02/13/NJ_Senate_to_Vote_on_Marriage_Equality_Bill/
and Here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/21/chris-christie-piers-morgan-gay-marriage-_n_1292145.html
Also in other new Maryland senators have now also voted in favor of marriage equality as well! "Opponents have vowed to bring the measure to referendum in November. They will need to gather at least 55,726 valid signatures of Maryland voters to put it on the ballot and can begin collecting names now that the bill has passed both chambers"
Read more about that HERE: http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/23/10490130-maryland-lawmakers-pass-bill-to-allow-gay-marriage
ALSO, in more personal new, I have started my own petition in hopes to get my state to considering removing the law that was added to our state constitution back in 2004 banning gay marriages in North Dakota. My hopes is to get local lawmakers review and hopefully remove or at least bring it back to the polls and let North Dakotans vote on it again. I'm sure that we can get marriage equality back to our state.
You can find (and sign) my petition here: http://www.change.org/petitions/north-dakotan-political-leaders-and-voters-repeal-gay-marriage-ban-passed-in-2004
For those of you who didn't hear about this one, it will make you shed a tear! A Federal Judge has found DOMA to be unconstitutional in favor of Karen Golinski. Karen is an attorney and works withing the US Court of Appeals. She was fighting to get the same benefits for her wife that are offered to heterosexual couples.
Read about it here: http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2012/02/23/DOMA_Found_Unconstitutional/
as well as here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/46504700
Hey everyone, if you have not yet sign this petition please make sure to do so!
Tell our federal government to DUMP DOMA: http://www.change.org/petitions/tell-the-president-and-congress-dump-doma
sign it and pass it on!!
Love and Peace!

Stomp, Stomp I've Arrived
Hello to all (I know there are only 6 of you however all makes me feel more important).
Life has been so busy since I was last on here expressing my frustration with homophobia and fighting the good fight of Equality.
I have switched jobs and became a mom again to another wonder baby girl in August(her big sister is so proud!) but I have not stopped my fight against ignorance and hate.
There are so many petitions and organizations to get involved with!
So back to where we were:
I have exciting news! Canada has a new 25 cents piece they are using. It's a coin support marriage equality as part of their new line of 25 cent pieces titled: 2012 “celebration” quarters.

IN OTHER NEWS:
Advocates are fighting the overturning of the law in Maine where it legalized Gay Marriages.
"State lawmakers had passed a marriage bill signed into law by Gov. John Baldacci in June of 2009, but voters narrowly overturned the law a few months later. " Advocates have collected 100,000(or more) signatures to bring this back to the ballots! GO MAINE!!!:

Have any of you recently heard of the dismembered body that was found in Hollywood along a hiking trail? The victim was identified as Hervey Medellin, a 66-year-old gay man who lived in Hollywood. He had been reported missing 8 days prior by his partner. Whether it was a hate crime or not; It's still sick and sad. I hope the catch whoever did it. <3 RIP Hervey Medllin

The homicide of Robert Champion Jr is still under investigation. He was found unconscious in the back of a bus after a football game(he was a member of band). People are questioning if the recent information his parents have come out with will change anything; Their son, Robert, was gay. Now the parents are unsure if that would have played a role in his death. However, if any of us have been in high school or college recently, we can say that most likely someone on the bus knew and someone on the bus might not have liked that(my opinion) or perhaps he was just great at music and jealousy reared it's ugly green face. However, we cannot say for certainty until the guilty party comes forward and gives his side, because sadly the victim cannot speak for himself. <3 RIP Robert Champion Jr

Have you ever heard of "gay panic"? If not, you may not like it. In Queensland, Australia a person can get away will killing a homosexual by claiming "gay panic". What is this "gay panic" you ask? Basically the guilty party can try to reduce their charge to manslaughter by claiming that the deceased propositioned him and they went temporarily insane and killed them(even if the person isn't gay, the killer just thought they were). Sound stupid? I agree. There is even a Catholic priest who is calling for this to be revoked as an option. There is a huge petition on Change.org that you can sign or read the full information on it. ( I believe that government agreed to make changes however we need to make sure that they follow through!)

Reoccuring Theme: In the Media
I recently found a list that stated it was gay celebs and famous gays..I decided to go through the list and see if there is any new information?
http://gaylife.about.com/od/gaycelebrityprofiles/ig/Gay-Celebrity-Profiles/
I found it quite interesting
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moving onward,
In the news recently:
"Hope College Upholds Antigay Policy"
Apparently there is a college in Holland, Mich. that has a policy that "condemns homosexual acts and gay advocacy". The trustees for Hope College refused to back down from this policy, assuming as such because it is a Christian college. However, the committee may still overrule that option and still remove the policy.
Last year the college admin refused Dustin Lance Black( award winning screenwriter) to host a screening of Milk (personal insert: LOVE THE MOVIE).
There was a petition in response to this restriction from students, alumni and community groups to get them to remove the policy.
The policy, created 1995, "condemns homosexual acts and gay advocacy, but supports ‘fair and kind treatment for people with a homosexual orientation’ and the academic discussion of issues related to homosexuality"
*takes a deep pause*
SO...in other words, at this school, it's not ok to be gay but if you get the shit beat out of you because you are....what happens to the basher? I can see the discussion now!
Setting:
Tommy-gay, in hospital bed in ICU
Dan, Jeremy, Kelly, sally- in Deans office for kicking the shit out of Tommy
Dean....Marshell?
Dean: So what do you have to say for yourself? We, at this school, do not promote physical violence, especially on campus! Give me one reason why you all should not be expelled?
Sally: He was a fag and was flaunting it.
Dean: *shocked look* You are suspended for the remainder of the week. Don't let me catch you guys even failing a class or you will be expelled!
SO...you "SUPPORT" fair and equal treatment for homosexuals...what about bisexuals? Transsexuals? Crossdressers? Do they support fair treatment for them as well?
How can you "support" all GBLTQAs well being but condemn them at the same time?
That's like being a Obama supporter and voting for Bush anyways!
A rough comparison, but I will make it work...somehow.
The youth center is seeking grants to assist with setting up and operating fees for this new program, which will run $280,000 to $580,000. OUCH! ALSO, they are seeking to get public schools to inform youths about the youth center and is also offering to help set up GSAs!
Day of the Mothers blog(of course)
On this lovely Sunday afternoon you may call or get a card for your mother(which I have yet to do). Or, for the "non-traditional" family, you may have more than one mother or motherly figure to purchase something for!
I know growing up most of my Mother's Day gifts from school were made and given to my Grandmother (considering the fact I didn't have an actual mother until I turned 13) My birth mother or as I refer to her to family and friends "egg donor" has not been around since I was about 8 years old. Her own choices, not mine(although now, I am thankful she was never around). My father married my mother when I was 13. Although, by "law" she is my step mother, she is my mother nonetheless. However, during those prime years from 8 to 13, I had my Grammi. She is and will always be my best friend. No matter who comes and goes, she has always been there for me, teaching me, and loving me for who I am.
She has been my standing ovation at my band concerts and plays, my chauffeur to all my surgeries and appointments, my shoulder to cry on when I lost my daughter, Samantha, and holding my leg during the birth of my daughter, Cortlynn.
Sure, my boyfriend has been there for me too, but noone has been there like she has, for as long as she has. 23(almost 24) years is along time to me! All the appointments and practices and "playdates". My dad and mom were there too, but my Grammi takes the award for most supportive . My mom told me I "needed help" and that "something was wrong" with me because I was a Bisexual. My Grammi? She shrugged her shoulders when I told her about the argument with my mom about it. She just said "So, what about it?"
She has been my defining character that I strive to be. She raised her own two children, only to take in her 2 granddaugthers 25 years later and help raise them? She fought for custody of us when the "egg donor" took of with us amidst her legal issues with hiding a gun that was used for attempted murder(such a smart women, eh?). She took us into her home, fed us, clothed us, put us back into school.
She is my guiding light. I only hope that everyone has had a mother as amazing as my Grammi.
Don't get me wrong, I love my mom. She is an amazing woman. An how she puts up with my pops, I'll never know! She has been there in my time of need.(2am phone calls-on a workday- with me screaming and bawling, coming and pick me and my little girl yup. Yeah, that's devotion)
SO,
I hope you all appreciate your mother or motherly figures! Surprise a beautiful mother and give her a flower or a hug! Make her day!
Apparently You Cannot be Gay and Christian at the Same Time?
As I was reading the news today I noticed there was ANOTHER article regarding excluding people based on their sexual orientation.
At University of California's Hastings College of the Law, in San Fransisco, a group called the Christian Legal Society is suing the school! Why? Because they want to be recognized as a school organization with school funding. The college rightfully denied CLS from becoming a fully sanctioned group because they wanted to prevent members of non-hetero sexuality from being in the upper ranks of running the group(not being members but "club officers".)
Here is a quote from the groups lawyer:
"CLS has all of its activities entirely open to everyone," lawyer Michael McConnell said. "What it objects to is being run by non-Christians."
So in other words, even though the point of this group is to join together in the light of God and share love and scriptures, they are in fact spreading their homophobic ways unto others. I personally feel the urge to sue due to libel! This statement is saying that anyone who is not hetero cannot be a Christian!(Well, if I was a Christian perhaps I would care more).
ANYWHO,
The lawsuit was previously thrown out by a federal judge in 2004. So now it has landed itself in the Supreme Court, which quickly divided down the middle on what's right and wrong. They are not expected to have a ruling on this issue until this coming summer.
If you would like to read the article written by JESSE J. HOLLAND with AP you can view the following:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36648454/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts//
Is there any issue, article or any thing else that you would like to discuss or get my opinion on? Let me know! No issue it too taboo(well no issue is taboo enough to at least address..not necessarily discuss).
Also, let me know your opinions on what I've said or covered so far. Feel free to let me have it, I quite enjoy CONSTRUCTIVE critisism.
One last note, although this has turned into (basically) a GBLTQA blog, feel free to discuss other issues. What I have discussed are just issues that hit close to home for me. Let me know if there is something whether Gay-Community related or not that you would like to be brought to light!
Day of Silence April 16th 2010
A few days ago was the day the GBLTQA community made national news with their Day of Silence.
Day of Silence has grown significantly over the years, starting with over 150 students participating in the first year in 1996. Today, presumably due to increase information available due to technology and word of mouth, seemed to mark a special occasion.
There is a young girl in Mississippi name Constance wanted to bring her girlfriend to prom, the school told her no. She challenged her schools answer in court and was awarded the right to bring her beloved to the event. The school's response? THEY CANCELED PROM.
Now, schools do have a right to cancel events as seen needed, but this seemed a little drastic! A member of the school board that invoked their "right" to cancel stated the following:
"Due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events, the Itawamba County School District has decided to not host a prom at Itawamba Agricultural High School this year."
Also this:
"In the announcement, the school board encouraged the community to organize a private prom. "It is our hope that private citizens will organize an event for the juniors and seniors. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes anyone," the statement concluded. School officials did not respond to calls seeking comment."(By Chris Joyner, USA TODAY)
So now they no only approve of homophobia, they create a hostile environment for any GBLTQAs that are seeking the same rights as everyone else. With so many states moving forward in the Gay Rights Movement(with the exception of Gay Marriages), how are PUBLIC schools still so far behind?
When I was a Jr at my high school, I went to prom with my girlfriend(for those of you who don't know, I am a proud Bisexual). We didn't have any issues what so ever! We walked grand march and had fun dancing/cuddling all night. In fact, there were numerous girls walking down grand march together(not all of them couples, just friends with no dates). However, two of my gay male friends did experience a rough bump in the road when the main office attempted to stop him from being able to walk down grand march with his boyfriend. They decided not to pursue the matter any further and just enjoy their prom.(Either that or they did attempt to get their right and they didn't tell anyone).
I am fairly certain that someone from the younger class fought their right to bring their boyfriend down grand march and prom and was able to do so.
So how is it that only a few states away, this school board would rather piss on everyone then allow a couple access to prom? If a straight male was playing a practical joke and went down grand march dress as a girl(dress and all) would they allow it?
How far are these homophobic Conservatives willing to go? Why should our community be forced back into the closet or have to "repent their ways and see the light of God and CHOSE to be straight"
We are born this way, we simply were made to love differently. As for people who state the we should "be on medication to correct the way our brain chemicals react that make us GBLTQA", what happen to the golden rules we were taught?
What happened to love thy neighbor as thyself? It doesn't say love thy neighbor as thyself1 then later down the page 1:unless thy neighbor is anything but a Caucasian white collar heterosexual with a happy marriage to a woman and 2 kids in a house that they own in the suburbs and goes to church Wednesday night and Sunday morning. Also, they must not associate with anyone outside these boundaries.
You may laugh, but look at all the issues. Even in certain areas of Africa, blacks are treated as a second class citizen!
We need to STOP the hate and phobia and teach love and tolerance.
Hell, people outside of any gender, race, sexual orientation, social status, age etc...
You don't need to like people outside of what your ideal lifestyle should be, but that doesn't mean you should call names, bully, beat up, ban, or kill people who "aren't like you".
Just leave them be, let them do what you are trying to do: Live their lives, Share their Love, and Pass on their Blessings
Back to Day of Silence:
I made it about 20mins(due to my job and child) were pretty good.
How long did you last?
